Marico - Corporate (Key People)

Any organisation can only be as good as its people are willing to make it. If Marico is reaching higher goals and making its presence felt so strongly, it is in no small measure due to the people whose dedicated effort has effected this success. We would like to introduce to you some of the key people who help run Marico.

Mr. Harsh Mariwala, Chairman and Managing Director:
A Bachelor of Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai, Mr. Mariwala started his career with the Bombay Oil Industries Limited (BOIL) in the year 1971. He took charge of the Company's Consumer Products division in 1975 and functioned as its Executive Director from 1980-1990. In 1990, he took over as Chairman & managing Director of Marico Industries Limited. During the last decade, Marico has grown from a sales turnover of Rs. 1.1 billion to Rs. 7.8 billion.

Under his leadership, Marico, has seen transformation of a traditional commodity driven business to a leading blue-blooded FMCG business focussing on value-added products (Marico has expanded its portfolio from 2 brands in BOIL to 12 brands in Marico) and services, both in India and abroad.

Besides being the Chairman & Managing Director of Marico, Mr. Mariwala is on the Boards of Cadbury India Limited and MIRC Electronics Limited among others.

Mr. Mariwala is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers Of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

While being transformed from a Family owned and managed Company into a Listed, Professionally managed Corporation under Mr. Mariwala's leadership, Marico has won various awards for excellence, including the award for Top Performing Global Growth Company from India (1997) at the World Economic Forum, the award for the Best HR practices from the National HRD Network (1994) and the Innovative HR Practice Award at the Asia Pacific HR Conference (1999).

Mr. Mariwala is an active golf player and when he takes time off, he likes to pursue his hobbies in swimming, trekking and listening to Indian classical music.

Mr. Pradeep Mansukhani, Chief Executive Officer- Sales:
Having done his Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering at IIT, Kharagpur and an MBA from IIM, Bangalore, Mr. Mansukhani worked for Cadbury India Ltd. and Standard Chartered Bank before joining Marico. He is currently the Head of Sales.

Mr. Mansukhani was awarded the Indian Oil Gold Medal for Best All Round Performance at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (1983 - '85). He has captained the Tennis teams of IIT, Kharagpur (1977 - '81) and IIM, Bangalore (1984).

Mr. Rakesh Pandey, Chief Human Resources Officer:
With a Bachelors degree of Technology (Honours), in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Technology, B.H.U., Mr. Pandey's career includes stints with British Oxygen (UK), Indian Oxygen and Hindustan Lever Ltd. Mr. Pandey has been with Marico Industries Ltd., since 1990 and has functioned in various roles in Operations. Mr. Pandey has been heading the HR function since April 1998. He also holds the additional charge as the CEO of Kaya Aesthetics Ltd., Marico's subsidiary operating Kaya Skin Clinics.

In his free time, Mr. Pandey likes to read, play squash or badminton and travel.

Mr. Milind Sarwate, Chief Financial Officer:
Mr. Sarwate, a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and Company Secretary by profession, was with Hoechst India Limited and the Godrej Group before he joined Marico in 1998. He is the Chief Financial Officer, in charge of the core Finance functions as also Information Systems Function, Legal and Secretarial.

When he takes time off, Mr. Sarwate likes to read across a wide range of subjects and listen to Indian music.

Mr Shyam Sutaria, General Manager - International Business Group:
With a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT - Bombay (1981) and an MBA from Bombay University(1985), Mr Shyam Sutaria has worked for companies like Garware Paints and Johnson and Johnson before joining Marico Industries Ltd in 1991. At Marico , Shyam Sutaria has handled various roles in Supply Chain, Commodities , Procurement , Factory Management before moving to head the International Business Group in June 2000.

Besides work Mr Shyam Sutaria spends most of his time in reading on a wide range of subjects .
